Manager of Analytics | Toronto FC
Applied Soccer Analytics
The growing use of analytics in professional soccer has lagged behind the progress being made in other sports. This talk will discuss both the technical and practical difficulties of integrating data-driven processes into sporting decisions. Attendees will learn how analytics are being used by soccer clubs around the world, what is "expected goals" and why it is the leading soccer analytics metric, and the difficulties of implementing soccer analytics in a club setting.
Devin Pleuler has been the Manager of Analytics for Toronto FC since the beginning of the 2015 season. Previously, he worked as a data scientist for the professional services arm of Opta Sports and wrote an analytics column for MLSsoccer.com.
