Using Math to Schedule Athletic Conference Seasons

Athletic schedules for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and other NCAA Division III conferences around the country are created at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. This presentation will cover how students in the Center for Athletic Scheduling express conference requirements as mathematical equations to find better schedules than could be created by hand.

Andy Felt has been at UW-Stevens Point for more than 15 years. Before that he was a chemical engineer in the oil industry. His specialty is operations research, where practitioners use mathematics to optimize and manage large operations. Elise Celarier is a mathematics and computer information systems major at UW-Stevens Point.
