Information Technology MiniGrant Program

The MiniGrant program is currently paused, likely until FY23. An announcement will be made to the College and this page will be updated when Minigrants are again available.

Overview

The Information Technology MiniGrant program provides funds of up to $3,000 to support the use of technology within the College. MiniGrant applications are typically accepted once per year in late fall or winter. Availability my vary depending on funding. Grants are typically awarded to individuals, but departmental requests may also be considered.

Examples of past uses include tablets, graphics drawing tablets, headsets, discipline specific software, computer/mobile device connected scientific hardware, and online technology courses.

Proposal Deadline

Proposals for 2019-2020 are due to the COLS Dean’s Office (CBB 200) by February 14, 2020 by 4pm.

Application Process

Detailed application instructions can be found on the MiniGrant Application Form. In general, you must first consult with the College Support Team representative for your department, complete the application form, seek approval from your Department Chair, and submit the completed application form to the COLS Dean’s Office by the deadline listed above.

Program Exclusions and Limitations

  • The Minigrant program cannot fund:
    • Salary Payments
    • Desktop, Laptop, or 2-in-1 Devices
    • Smartphones or Cellular Plans
  • Tablet limitations:
    • Individuals with a 2-in-1 device (such as the HP Elite x2) are not eligible for tablets through the MiniGrant program.
    • Individuals with a laptop are only eligible for tablets primarily intended for in-class or research use.
    • Individuals are eligible for tablets from the MiniGrant program only once every four years.
    • Tablet funding is limited to the cost of the standard COLS tablet configuration (includes tablet, carrying case, and options keyboard). Please see your CST for current models and prices. Additional costs beyond the standard tablet configuration must be funded by your department.
  • Funding:
    • Funding for technology-related personal development courses must be matched by the department. Such requests will be given a lower priority than requests for software/hardware.
    • Funding for subscription services is limited to one year.
    • Funding is only available within the fiscal year awarded.
  • Purchasing:
    • All purchase orders must be placed through your CST.
    • The program cannot provide reimbursement for personal purchases.

Reporting

Grantees must file a report with the COLS Dean’s Office within one year of receipt of funding.
