Things to do

PLEASE NOTE: The UW-Stevens Point Museum of Natural History remains CLOSED for renovations inside the Science Building, its new permanent location.

  • Self-guided Tour: Read about the exhibits as you walk through the museum using our self-guided tour (PDF). There are a few interactive exhibits. See if you can find the T-rex button!
  • Augmented Reality Sandbox: Look at and play in our augmented reality sandbox. Simply mold the sand by hand and the landscape comes to life! The sand is augmented in real-time with an elevation color map, topographic contour lines, and simulated water. What shapes will you make?

  • Activity Corner: Take one of our scavenger hunts and see if you can find all of the animals throughout the museum. Or test your knowledge on our exhibits and take our online museum quizzes and scavenger hunt. This station will also have rotating activities.

    1. Museum Quiz 1
    2. Museum Quiz 2
    3. Museum Quiz 3
    4. Museum Scavenger Hunt
  • Literature Cove: Grab one of our books on our literature rack or pick up a coloring page for some fun.

  • Brochure Rack: Make your way over to our brochure rack for some great information on various topics, such as the UW-Stevens Point campus, Schmeeckle Reserve, UW-Stevens Point Planetarium and Observatory, how to compost, how to make a natural butterfly garden, and more.

  • Gift Shop: Come take a peek out our museum gift shop. To see a sample of what we offer, click on our gift shop page.

  • Special Events: Check our Programs and Events page to stay up to date on events the Museum has going on.

  • Virtual Story Time: Virtual Story Time: Join the staff at the UW-Stevens Point Museum of Natural History as we read some nature or wildlife-themed children's books and do some crafts and activities related to that week's theme. Stories and activities are geared toward children ages 2-5, but anyone is welcome to join us! Story Time is offered each semester. You can access our previous Virtual Story Times here. Contact us at museum@uwsp.edu with questions.

  • Collection Crawl: Collection Crawl is the Museum's annual open house where the artifacts from all our collections are out on display for the public. Grab a passport and travel around campus to find each collection. Ask questions and participate in fun activities at each collection. Maybe even hold a Madagascar hissing cockroach or pet some reptiles! Collection Crawl is every year, typically on the first Saturday in April.
