Why study oboe at UWSP?

The oboe studio is part of the outstanding music department at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. The studio consists of music majors (double majors are welcome, too), music minors and even non-majors who want to continue studies on oboe.

If you are considering UWSP, you are encouraged to arrange a “day on campus.” This allows prospective students the opportunity to attend classes and rehearsals, get a lesson with Prof. Berk and meet students already in the program. You'll be able to experience the environment and see if it is the right fit for you.  Please contact Prof. Berk or Monica Anderson in the music department office to schedule. For more information regarding auditions, admission and scholarships please visit the Music Department website.

Program -- UWSP offers the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education, Performance, Jazz Studies, and the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. The Master of Music degree is offered in Music Education with an emphasis in elementary/secondary education, Suzuki talent education, or studio pedagogy emphasis. By providing the academic programs of a great university within the atmosphere of a small community, students are afforded an experience of excellence in a personal environment.

Faculty -- One of our greatest strengths as an institution is the outstanding faculty; this combined with a student/faculty ration of 22:1 provides the highest percent of undergraduate courses taught by regular faculty members in the UW system.

Ensembles -- There are many playing opportunities for students: Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Campus Band, woodwind quintets, double reed ensembles and others. Additionally, off-campus opportunities are often available in the Stevens Point and surrounding areas.

Success -- Graduates of the UWSP Music department are routinely accepted to top graduate schools or working in the music industry and music education graduates are sharing their passion for music across the country.
