With The Grain is an environmental arts project hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point that brought five internationally recognized sculptors to Stevens Point for a signature residency. The artists lived and worked in the community from Oct. 17 - Nov. 7 2005, constructing on-site public sculpture in the area.
The With the Grain residency was an exciting public arts collaboration between the City of Stevens Point, the Stevens Point Arts Council, the Stevens Point Area Schools, and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
This residency was a wonderful introduction to the public art process. The work created will be a part of the Stevens Point community landscape for years to come on sites that are visited by children, families, and university students on a regular basis.
Artists selected for this project were Tim Curtis from the United States, Johann Feilacher from Austria, Francois Lelong from France, Urs-P.Twellmann from Switzerland, and Thomas Radeloff from Germany. To learn more about the individual artists, click on the 'artists' link.
Each of the five artists worked with UWSP students through a public arts class to develop site-specific sculptural work. Click on the 'sites' link to see more images.
An exhibition was held in December 2005 at the UWSP Carlsten Gallery documenting the entire process and displaying UWSP student work inspired by this experience.
Sentry Insurance Invitation to the Arts brings world-class performing artists to central Wisconsin to share their talents with local students.
