Cancellations

Requests received prior to the registration deadline will be granted a full refund. Requests received after the registration deadline but prior to the workshop’s start will receive a 50% refund. No refund will be granted to requests received after the start of the workshop. Cancellations can be made by emailing Jennifer Summers at jsummers@uwsp.edu.

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point

Join falconers and founders of River Valley Raptors Inc., Joe and Abbey Krumrie, in a hands-on introduction to raptor husbandry, training, and educational programming. The workshop will cover raptor health, care, husbandry, training, and incorporating raptors into environmental education programs.

This course is open to captive wildlife professionals and UW-Stevens Point students taking the captive wildlife minor. We have five spots available for professionals!

Target Audience


This workshop is designed for UW-Stevens Point students taking the captive wildlife minor or for professionals with little to no raptor handling experience. No prior experience with raptors is required.

Meet the Instructors​


Abbey and Joe Krumrie are Stevens Point alumni with degrees in Biology/Captive Wildlife and Wildlife Ecology.  They met each other while working at the National Eagle Center.

Abbey with bird.jpgAbbey later moved on to become the Director of education for the Raptor Education Group Inc. and has been a Certified Professional Bird Trainer for the past five years.  She has just become a general Falconer after apprenticing under Joe for the past two years.

Raptor Husbandry - Joe with Bird.jpgJoe’s job moved him and Abbey back to the Driftless area where they both grew up and now have started a family.  They are both passionate about the education and conservation of the driftless area, which led them to co-found River Valley Raptors, where they work as Executive Director and Curator of Birds, as well as serve on the board of Directors.  












Together they have 20 years of experience in both training and husbandry of raptors.  Both Abbey and Joe are active members of the International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators (IAATE).
