Nestled into the woods near the visitor center, the rustic Pankowski Friends Amphitheater is a natural and intimate gathering space for programs and events. It was constructed in 2019 by the
Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve, a nonprofit support organization, and funded by nearly
100 generous donors. Tiers of native sandstone blocks built into a grassy hillside provide seating for 200 to 250 people. The large stage area has a soaring, curved roof suspended by wood timbers. The amphitheater serves as the main performance venue for Candlelight Hike Festivals, public nature programs, and other special events sponsored by Schmeeckle Reserve. It is also available for rental by private individuals and community groups.
