Plan Commission Workshops

The Center for Land Use Education offers plan commission workshops serving single and multi-county areas of Wisconsin. Workshops are designed for newly appointed plan commission members, veteran commissioners tackling complex issues, elected officials, and staff whose job it is to support local commissions.

Thursday, September 27, 2018 – Zoning and Subdivision Regulations

Middleton Public Library, Middleton, WI

These workshops will help you learn more about tools and procedures used by local planning and zoning officials. The first workshop focuses on using and updating the comprehensive plan as a foundation for local land use decision-making. The second workshop concentrates on regulatory tools and procedures, including zoning and subdivision regulations. Local oficials may choose to attend one or both workshops using the registration form below.

Marathon County recently completed a major update of its comprehensive plan and zoning ordinance. These workshops will provide a brief overview of those changes and help local officials understand their role in making local planning and zoning decisions. Interactive exercises will focus on identifying and applying standards for rezones and conditional uses.

Community Development Webinar Series  

Fridays: April 15, May 20, June 17 and July 15, 2016  
 
Community Development is a framework for engaging affected parties in understanding their issues and developing consensus responses to address them. The focus of engagement and interventions is at the community level.
 
This monthly four part lunch time series systematically explores community development models. It begins to identify a framework from which planners, community development practitioners, and Extension educators can speak a common language, conduct worthwhile and effective projects, and most importantly, engage with residents in our communities.
 
Register for individual sessions or for the entire series. Full series registrants receive a copy of Asset Building and Community Development, 4th Edition by Gary Greene and Anna Haines (2016).
Overview of Community Development: Introduction, historic evolution, and best practices in community development.
Introduction to Community Heart & SoulTM: An approach to community planning and development that invites and involves residents to shape the future.
Community Development in Wisconsin: Compare and contrast community development approaches advanced by Cooperative Extension, a statewide nonprofit organization, and a planning consultant.
Examples From Other States: An exploration of models that have been embraced in neighboring states.
