Plan Commission Workshops

The Center for Land Use Education offers plan commission workshops serving single and multi-county areas of Wisconsin. Workshops are designed for newly appointed plan commission members, veteran commissioners tackling complex issues, elected officials, and staff whose job it is to support local commissions.

Spring 2024

​Workshops for Zoning and Planning Officials - Juneau

Role of the Plan Commission​ ​​​- Wednesday, February 28, 2024,  (5:30-8:00 pm)

This session will review the roles and​​ responsibilities of the zoning committee, plan commission, and elected officials in making land use decisions. We’ll take a closer look at zoning and review the process and standards for granting conditional uses and amending the zoning ordinance. ​​​

Role of the Zoning Board​​ - Wednesday, March 27, 2024  (5:30-8:00 pm)

This session will look at how zoning board members act like judges and how their decisions impact communities. It also takes a deep dive into variance decisions covering the legal standards for granting a variance, and how to create a complete record for the court​​​​s.

Floodplain Zoning Webinar Series​

Thursdays - March 21, March 28, April 4, 2024
All Sessions: Noon - 1:00PM

This series will introduce participants to basic tools and objectives of floodplain and coastal management and take a
closer look at ordinance adoption and administration in Wisconsin.​


Zoning Workshop for Local Officials - Elkhorn

Tuesday, April 30, 2024,  (5:30-8:00 pm)

This workshop will provide the basics of zoning with an overview of the roles and responsibilities of local government officials involved in making zoning decisions. We will take a closer look at:

  • permitted and conditional uses
  • ordinance amendments
  • rezones

We will also discuss the role of the comprehensive plan and how to make legally defensible decisions by applying state and local ordinance standards. County planning and zoning staff will be on hand to answer questions specific to Walworth Count

Planning and Zoning Recorded Webinars

The Center for Land Use Education has conducted several planning and zoning webinars. The webinars are focused on orientatong new and continuing Wisconsin officials and staff to their roles and responsibilities related to zoning, planning, variances, subdivision regulations, conditional uses, and more. All webinar video recordings are available for purchase at $20 each. Three basic sessions are free.
