What is Hazing?
Hazing is any activity expected of someone joining or participating in a group that humiliates, degrades, abuses, or endangers them, regardless of a person’s willingness to participate
How to identify hazing:
- It can happen individually or as part of a group.
- It is any intentional, intimidating, or reckless act committed by a person against another person.
- It occurs whether or not the person is willing.
Signs of a Healthy Group Include:
Fun – You look forward to spending time with this group.
Belonging – Every person can be their true self without fear of judgement.
Respect – The group values each person’s priorities, decisions, beliefs, and boundaries.
Trust – The group makes everyone’s safety and wellbeing a priority. People genuinely care about each other’s physical and mental health.
Honesty – The group operates with fairness, integrity, and transparency about group expectations.
