Removing Remnants of Honorlock #

If you copied a quiz into your course that you previously proctored using Honorlock, you may have to remove remnants of Honorlock proctoring.

  1. To determine whether or not Honorlock remnants exist in your quiz, open the Quiz in Canvas and look for two things. First, you will see an Honorlock Chrome Extension object embedded in the Instructions of the Quiz. Second, you may also see the Honorlock Access Code. The screenshot below shows both items. (see image 1 in the gallery)

  1. You will need to remove both the object (iframe) from the Instructions section and the Access Code.
  2. Enter Edit Mode in the Quiz
  3. Click the html editor button at the bottom of the rich content editor for the Quiz Instructions.
  4. Delete the Honorlock iframe embedded in a paragraph, which is exactly this code: “<p><iframe id=”hlinstructframe” style=”width: 800px; height: 600px;” src=”https://app.honorlock.com/install/extension” loading=”lazy”></iframe></p>”. DO NOT DELETE any additional code. (see image 2 in the gallery)

  1. Click the html editor button again to return to the text editor version and visually check to make sure the Honorlock iframe object has been removed.
  2. Scroll down to the Quiz Restrictions Setting and deleted the Honorlock Access Code and uncheck the “Require an access code” button. (see image 3 in the gallery)

  1. Save the Quiz after making these changes.
  2. Visually check the quiz to make sure you do not see any Honorlock objects or access codes.
  3. You may also email citl@uwsp.edu to request that we remove these Honorlock remnants for you.

Create a Practice Quiz #

Create a Practice Quiz for your students. See the Best Practices: Practice Quiz document for more information. You can either download the ungraded Respondus Practice Quiz created by CITL (linked below) or you can create your own Practice Quiz in Canvas. The CITL Respondus Practice Quiz is a Canvas Practice Quiz meaning that it is ungraded and will not impact grades. You will need to enable Respondus LockDown Browser and/or Respondus Monitor using the instructions below for your Practice Quiz.

To import the Respondus Practice Quiz follow the instructions in the Canvas Guide: How do I import a Canvas course export package?

LockDown Browser #

  1. Navigate to your Canvas course and click “Lockdown Browser” from the left navigation pane.
  2. Select “Settings” from the drop-down menu to the left of the quiz title.

Second Camera #

You can require that students use a second camera during exam proctoring. You can enable this setting at the bottom of the Respondus Monitor settings screen.

There are two limitations related to using a second camera during proctoring.

  1. If students are using an iPad as their primary device for taking the exam, they cannot add a second camera.
  2. The student must have a second device that can scan a QR code to be able to add the second camera.

To learn more, visit the Respondus Support: How to Require a Second Camera for a Respondus Monitor Exam web page.

Allow iPads to use Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor #

Note: some students report problems while taking proctored quizzes with iPads.

  1. Select “Advanced Settings” under the Respondus Monitor menu.
  2. Check the box next to “Allow use of an iPad for this exam

Student Instructions/Syllabus Language #

Review and update your Student Instructions based on your quiz type and LockDown settings. These instructions are designed to be copied and pasted into your course syllabus, Canvas pages, or other documents.

CITL has already prepared syllabus language including student instructions, which are found in the UWSP SYLLABUS TEMPLATE – CITL.

You can also copy and edit student instructions directly from the Respondus Dashboard in the Getting Started tab as shown in the screenshot below.

Reviewing Results After a Proctored Quiz #

If you enable Respondus Monitor for your quiz, you will have access to recordings of students’ exam sessions. You should review the Respondus Monitor: Understanding Proctoring Results resource so you can learn what to expect after students complete a proctored exam.

Important Note: Nobody at Respondus or UWSP will review your exam results. Best practice is for all faculty or instructors to review all exam proctoring results after the exam has concluded.
