SUMMARY:Habitat Earth
DESCRIPTION:Narrated by Frances McDormand\, Habitat Earth plunges below the ocean’s surface to explore the dynamic relationships found in deep ocean ecosystems. Digs beneath the forest floor to discover how Earth’s tallest trees rely on tiny fungi to survive. Soars to new heights to witness the intricate intersection between human and ecological networks. Habitat Earth features stunning visualizations of both biological and human-built networks (and of how they intersect). Join us on this immersive journey through the interconnectedness of life on Earth. \n*Recommended for all ages. \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. Please visit this website for more details about parking options\, rules\, and regulations.

SUMMARY:Totality
DESCRIPTION:Totality is a program covering everything you need to know about lunar and solar eclipses. We look back to the proof of general relativity and look forward to upcoming eclipses and where to witness them. Our production includes a variety of wonderful styles\, from spectacular space environments to humorous pop-up books. A very special part of the show relates\, in a very human way\, what happens when you are caught in the shadow of the Moon and the Sun is plunged into a total solar eclipse. \nOur shows are open to the public in the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium. The planetarium is located on the second floor of the Science Building\, by the Foucault pendulum\, right above the east main entrance. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Direct access is obtained through the east entrance. \nPlanetarium programs for groups (schools\, scouts\, organizations\, etc.) can be arranged during our academic year.  Call 715-346-2120 or email physastr@uwsp.edu \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. SUMMARY:Sustainable and Resilient Communities Leaders Panel
DESCRIPTION:Join the discussion as we gather elected officials to weigh the challenges and opportunities ahead in planning for climate resilience\, natural resource management\, and energy policy. \nThe Sustainable and Resilient Communities series will culminate with a panel of local mayors and administrators to consider the opportunities and challenges in implementing sustainability and resilience policies locally and regionally. \nThis academic year\, the UW-Stevens Point Department of Geography and Geology in the College of Letters and Science will host the Sustainable and Resilient Communities Series\, sponsored by the Thompson Center on Public Leadership. Participants are invited to attend and consider sustainability and resilience issues facing Wisconsin communities and their essential natural and cultural systems. Our 2023-2024 series is hosted by the UW-Stevens Point Department of Geography and Geology and the Center for the Small City.

SUMMARY:Fragile Planet - Celebrating Earth Day/Week
DESCRIPTION:Fragile Planet gives audiences an astronaut’s view of Earth\, highlighting Earths unique regions. The journey then continues to the Moon\, Mars\, and beyond the Milky Way to search for habitats that might host extraterrestrial life. The show’s theme — that Earth is the only known haven for life\, and thus is important to protect — echoes the themes of biodiversity and sustainability. \nThe visual foundation of the show lies in scientific visualization. From the high-resolution satellite imagery of Earth\, the positions of galaxies more than 50 million light years distant\, the three-dimensional terrain of Valles Marineris on Mars to the locations of extrasolar planetary systems in interstellar space\, everything audiences will see in Fragile Planet has a basis in astronomers’ best understanding of the Universe. SUMMARY:Earth\, Moon & Sun
DESCRIPTION:This planetarium show explores the relationship between Earth\, Moon and Sun with the help of Coyote\, an amusing character adapted from Native American oral traditions. Coyote has many misconceptions about our home planet and its most familiar neighbors. His confusion about the universe makes viewers think about how Earth\, Moon and Sun work together as a system and learn to distinguish between myths and science. \nLearn the basics of fusion and solar energy and why the Sun rises and sets. Examine the Moon’s orbit\, craters\, phases\, and eclipses. You’ll even take a look at past and future space travel to our Moon … and beyond! \n\n\nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm.
