SUMMARY:From Earth to the Universe
DESCRIPTION:The night sky\, both beautiful and mysterious\, has been the subject of campfire stories\, ancient myths\, and awe for as long as there have been people. A desire to comprehend the universe may well be humanity’s oldest shared intellectual experience. Yet only recently have we truly begun to grasp our place in the vast cosmos. \nTo learn about this journey of celestial discovery\, from the theories of the ancient Greek astronomers to today’s grandest telescopes\, we invite you to experience From Earth to the Universe. \nOur shows are open to the public in the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium. The planetarium is located on the second floor of the Science Building\, by the Foucault pendulum\, right above the east main entrance. Direct access is obtained through the east entrance. \n*Recommended for all audiences \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. Please visit this website for more details about parking options\, rules\, and regulations. \nPlanetarium programs for groups (schools\, scouts\, organizations\, etc.) can be arranged during our academic year.  Call 715-346-2120 or email physastr@uwsp.edu \n \n \n  \nGET INVOLVED! \nThe Blocher Planetarium is a treasure of the Stevens Point community\, offering shows to students young and old alike. This space has inspired countless students to go onto careers in astronomy and sparked the imagination of young children on field trips as they ask questions about the universe and their place in it. Help “Rebuild the Wonder” and join this effort to keep future generations gazing up at the stars. Learn More!

SUMMARY:Cosmic Castaways
DESCRIPTION:There are places in the Universe where the night sky has no constellations. No Orion\, no Saucepan. Nothing but a few lonely\, far away stars and some faint\, ghostly patches of light. \nAlmost all stars lie within the crowded boundaries of huge galaxies\, travelling with their brothers and sisters as a vast galactic family. But occasionally stars find themselves on their own\, flung deep into the dark voids between the galaxies. \nThese are the cosmic castaways. \nDiscover fascinating details about stars\, galaxies and the consequences of galaxy collisions.

SUMMARY:Cosmic Origins Spectrograph
DESCRIPTION:Discover spectroscopy\, the science of light\, and learn how scientists study the Universe by deciphering clues hidden in light arriving from distant objects. \nThe Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) is an instrument on the Hubble Space Telescope designed to analyze ultraviolet light from very distant\, faint objects.  COS allows us to learn about the origins of the large scale structure of the Universe\, the cold interstellar medium\, the formation and evolution of galaxies and the origin of stellar and planetary systems. \nThis feature is especially good for our guests aged 10 and older. *Recommended for all audiences \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm.
