SUMMARY:Nature's Architects
DESCRIPTION:Did you know we are “building” a new museum? (It’s going to take a lot of work.) Would you like to learn about how things are built in the natural world? Do you have some great ideas for museum exhibits? Come to the museum for this free Junior Scientist program about nature’s architects. This program free and open to all ages but is designed to be engaging for students ages 8-11. \nEvents are held in person at 5:30 p.m. in the UWSP Science Building Room A113 while the work continues to ready our new museum spaces. All programs are presented FREE! \nWelcome Back\, Junior Scientists!\nThe UW-Stevens Point Museum of Natural History presents monthly themes for curious kids in our Junior Scientist programs. Our Thursday evening programming—relaunching this fall—will teach kids about Wisconsin’s nocturnal animals\, how things are built in the natural world\, how animals navigate in their surroundings\, and much more! View fall programs flyer. \nJunior Scientist Program:\nDuring the school year\, the Museum of Natural History and Blocher Planetarium host free programs to engage children who would like to earn “Junior Scientist” status. Sign in at each event to get your name tag and show everyone you are a Junior Scientist in-training! Once you reach the level of Junior Scientist\, you get to have your picture put up on our Wall of Juniors!\n Registration is free and can be done online or in person at our events.

SUMMARY:International Observe the Moon Night
DESCRIPTION:Join lunar observers from around the world in exploring the features of the moon in celebration of International Observe the Moon Night. \nView unique features of the moon through our portable telescopes at the UW-Stevens Point Coleman Track\, adjacent to Maria Drive\, off Reserve Street. The moon will be the primary focus but there will also be views of Saturn\, Jupiter and other deep sky objects such as nebulae\, stellar clusters and galaxies\, weather permitting. The first-quarter moon on the date offers excellent viewing opportunities along the terminator (the line between night and day)\, where shadows enhance the moon’s cratered landscape. \nExplore the moon at home by viewing the livestream here. Have your own telescope? Check out the features on the NASA moon map.

SUMMARY:Travelling with Light
DESCRIPTION:Through the conversation between a child and his mother\, planetarium show “Travelling with Light” tackles the importance of light in all areas of our lives. This 2020 film presents different scenarios that reveal the complexity of light and its direct influence on our planet. The Sun is the closest star to Earth and generates the energy that provides the light and heat necessary for life. The study of the Sun’s light and that of other stars and galaxies enables the development of several models that explain the origin\, structure and evolution of the universe. \nNevertheless\, the Sun is not the only source of natural light. Fire has accompanied the Earth since its inception and has played a very important role in the evolution of the human being\, so much so that its discovery by primitive societies changed their way of life. Even artificial light and its applications in medicine or communication reveal the relationship between humanity\, life and light. \n*Recommended for all audiences \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. Please visit this website for more details about parking options\, rules\, and regulations. \nOur shows are open to the public in the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium. The planetarium is located on the second floor of the Science Building\, by the Foucault pendulum\, right above the east main entrance. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Direct access is obtained through the east entrance. \nPlanetarium programs for groups (schools\, scouts\, organizations\, etc.) can be arranged during our academic year.  Call 715-346-2120 or email physastr@uwsp.edu
