SUMMARY:Cocomong: A Space Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Rocket past the stars! Meet the monkey Cocomong who loves astronomy.  The playful prankster and his friends travel through space to save an alien from Virus King! Together with Cocomong you will go on a trip to the edge of the solar system! On the way\, the audience will learn a lot and feel like real astronauts. (2012). \nOur shows are open to the public in the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium. The planetarium is located on the second floor of the Science Building\, by the Foucault pendulum\, right above the east main entrance. Direct access is obtained through the east entrance. \n*Recommended for all families\, ages 5-12\nSunday Story Time at 3pm\, Planetarium Show at 3:30pm\n \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. DESCRIPTION:Sustainable and Resilient Communities Series 2023-2024\nHow can resilience planning and public policy be designed for the greatest impact? Learn from a three-time Chief Resilience Officer on frameworks that can be applied to prioritize climate action and climate equity for any community. Explore lessons learned on the quest to increase preparedness\, mitigation\, adaptation and recovery to climate change and other major events\, prioritizing our most vulnerable people\, places\, and systems. \nDirector of the Executive Climate Office for King County\, Wash.\, Marissa Aho\, will address issues related to climate change and authoring plans and policies focused on climate action for managing natural and urban resources. Moreover\, she is a lead figure in supporting environmental equity and justice to improve diversity of representation in issues of climate resilience. \nParticipants are invited to attend and consider sustainability and resilience issues facing Wisconsin communities and their essential natural and cultural systems. \nThe series is sponsored by the Tommy G. Thompson Center on Public Leadership and presented by the UWSP Department of Geography and Geology.

DESCRIPTION:Did you know we are “building” a new museum? (It’s going to take a lot of work.) Would you like to learn about how things are built in the natural world? Do you have some great ideas for museum exhibits? Come to the museum for this free Junior Scientist program about nature’s architects. This program free and open to all ages but is designed to be engaging for students ages 8-11. \nEvents are held in person at 5:30 p.m. in the UWSP Science Building Room A113 while the work continues to ready our new museum spaces. SUMMARY:International Observe the Moon Night
DESCRIPTION:Join lunar observers from around the world in exploring the features of the moon in celebration of International Observe the Moon Night. \nView unique features of the moon through our portable telescopes at the UW-Stevens Point Coleman Track\, adjacent to Maria Drive\, off Reserve Street. The moon will be the primary focus but there will also be views of Saturn\, Jupiter and other deep sky objects such as nebulae\, stellar clusters and galaxies\, weather permitting. The first-quarter moon on the date offers excellent viewing opportunities along the terminator (the line between night and day)\, where shadows enhance the moon’s cratered landscape. \nExplore the moon at home by viewing the livestream here. DESCRIPTION:Through the conversation between a child and his mother\, planetarium show “Travelling with Light” tackles the importance of light in all areas of our lives. This 2020 film presents different scenarios that reveal the complexity of light and its direct influence on our planet. The Sun is the closest star to Earth and generates the energy that provides the light and heat necessary for life. The study of the Sun’s light and that of other stars and galaxies enables the development of several models that explain the origin\, structure and evolution of the universe. \nNevertheless\, the Sun is not the only source of natural light. Fire has accompanied the Earth since its inception and has played a very important role in the evolution of the human being\, so much so that its discovery by primitive societies changed their way of life.
