SUMMARY:Seeing! A Photon's Journey Across Space\, Time and Mind
DESCRIPTION:Follow the journey of a single photon as it is produced in a distant star\, before travelling across the vast expanse of space to land on someone’s retina. This fulldome planetarium show explores some of the fascinating processes of the cosmos\, from astrophysics to the biology of the eye and brain. Funded through a generous grant from ZEISS\, the show is narrated by astronomer and science communicator\, Neil deGrasse Tyson. \n*Recommended for all audiences \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. Please visit this website for more details about parking options\, rules\, and regulations. \n \n \n  \nGET INVOLVED! \nThe Blocher Planetarium is a treasure of the Stevens Point community\, offering shows to students young and old alike. This space has inspired countless students to go onto careers in astronomy and sparked the imagination of young children on field trips as they ask questions about the universe and their place in it. Help “Rebuild the Wonder” and join this effort to keep future generations gazing up at the stars. Learn More!

SUMMARY:Max Goes to the Moon
DESCRIPTION:Max (the dog) and a young girl named Tori take the first trip to the Moon since the Apollo era. Along the way\, the story sets the stage for the more sophisticated science of the “Big Kid Box” sidebars\, which cover topics including “Phases of the Moon\,” “Wings in Space?\,” and “Frisbees and Curve Balls on the Moon” — all thoughtfully explained so that grownups and children can learn together about science. Toward the end\, Max and Tori’s trip proves so inspiring to people back on Earth that all the nations of the world come together to build a great Moon colony from which “the beautiful views of Earth from the Moon made everyone realize that we all share a small and precious planet.” \nOur shows are open to the public in the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium. The planetarium is located on the second floor of the Science Building\, by the Foucault pendulum\, right above the east main entrance. Direct access is obtained through the east entrance. \n*Recommended for all families\, ages 5-11\nSunday Story Time at 3pm\, Planetarium Show at 3:30pm\n \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community.

SUMMARY:The Sun\, Our Living Star
DESCRIPTION:Discover the secrets of our Sun with never-before-seen images of the Sun’s surface. It is our nearest star and our planet’s powerhouse\, the source of the energy that drives our winds\, our weather and all life. The passage of the Sun’s fiery disc across the sky — day by day\, month by month — was the only way to keep track of time for countless past civilizations. Don’t be fooled by the terminology; although it is a typical dwarf star\, the Sun consumes 600 million tons of hydrogen each second and is 500 times as massive as all the planets combined. \nYou will experience the Sun’s violent surface in this immersive full dome format planetarium show. *Recommended for all audiences  \n\n\nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm.
