SUMMARY:What Gave Us a Feeling About Time — Peter Barrickman
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of paintings and video by Milwaukee artist Peter Barrickman. Rooted in cycles of the natural world and Wisconsin’s seasons\, Peter’s new series of paintings meditates on transformation. \nA multidisciplinary artist\, Peter makes work in tandem with an archiving practice. His paintings merge observed and imagined realities through a process that welcomes revision and accident\, drawing on Expressionist and Post-Impressionist influences. His most recent work unfolds like a living system that reflects human complexity and our own movement through changing environments. \nPeter Barrickman’s work has been shown at numerous galleries and museums internationally including The Whitney Museum of American Art\, Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago\, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit\, La Panaderia in Mexico City\, Karma International in Zurich\, Tanzschuleprojects in Munich\, The Tate Modern in London\, Fluc in Vienna and Cité des Arts International in Paris. His work has been written about in Art Forum\, Art Papers\, Art in America online\, theNewRepublic.com\, Artnews.com and The New York Times online. \nBarrickman is an associate professor in Fine Art + New Studio Practice at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. SUMMARY:Messengers of Time and Space
DESCRIPTION:Messengers of Time and Space is a full-dome planetarium show from NSF NOIRLab designed to illuminate the imminent revolution in astronomy driven by time-domain and multi-messenger observations. This immersive experience invites audiences to explore the dynamic cosmos and witness the transformative impact of real-time data on our understanding of the Universe. \nThe planetarium show highlights how the International Gemini Observatory will work together with observatories that monitor the night sky for exciting astronomical events that change with time\, like Rubin Observatory. Sometimes\, light is not the only indicator of these short-term events. Audiences will learn how information can reach us through other messengers like cosmic rays\, elusive particles called neutrinos\, and even gravitational waves rippling through the Universe. \nOur shows are open to the public in the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium. The planetarium is located on the second floor of the Science Building\, by the Foucault pendulum\, right above the east main entrance. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Direct access is obtained through the east entrance. \nPlanetarium programs for groups (schools\, scouts\, organizations\, etc.) can be arranged during our academic year.  Call 715-346-2120 or email physastr@uwsp.edu \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. Please visit this website for more details about parking options\, rules\, and regulations. \n \n \n  \nGET INVOLVED! \nThe Blocher Planetarium is a treasure of the Stevens Point community\, offering shows to students young and old alike. This space has inspired countless students to go onto careers in astronomy and sparked the imagination of young children on field trips as they ask questions about the universe and their place in it. Help “Rebuild the Wonder” and join this effort to keep future generations gazing up at the stars. Learn More!

SUMMARY:2026 UWSP Jazz Festival with Guest Artist David Ambrosio
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, February 6\, 2026 | Noel Fine Arts Center\n\nJoin us for the 34th Annual UWSP Jazz Festival! Our guest artist this year is David Ambrosio\, who will be featuring his project “Civil Disobedience.”\nCivil Disobedience is a project initiated by New York bassist David Ambrosio\, showcasing the works of progressive jazz composers from the late 1960s Blue Note Era. The featured composers include Bobby Hutcherson\, Jackie McLean\, Stanley Cowell\, Harold Land\, Joe Chambers\, Duke Pearson\, and James Spaulding. Remarkably\, much of this music\, created during a period of significant social change and civil unrest\, remained unreleased for decades\, preventing these compositions from being heard when they were originally written. \nOver fifty years later\, in contemporary America\, there are notable parallels with the social movements of that era. This context lends a new and heightened sense of relevancy and urgency to the important music featured in Civil Disobedience. The project was conceptualized and convened as an artistic response to current socio-economic and social justice events\, both on a domestic and global scale. By performing the politically conscious jazz compositions of the late 1960s Blue Note Era\, Civil Disobedience seeks to bring forth the timeless messages embedded in this music and connect them with the pressing issues of today. (davidcambrosio.com) \nCivil Disobedience is: \nDonny McCaslin – tenor & soprano sax \nIngrid Jensen – trumpet \nBruce Barth – piano \nDavid Ambrosio – bass \nVictor Lewis – drums \n  \nBand Directors – your Jazz Ensembles and Jazz Combos are invited to join us for this year’s festival. Groups are $150 each; tickets for the performances are available at $15. Click here to register your group. \nFor questions about this year’s event\, contact Brent Turney\, Director of Jazz Studies at bturney@uwsp.edu

SUMMARY:Variable Stars in the Winter/Spring
DESCRIPTION:Many of the stars we see get brighter and even fainter over various periods of time. Some stars dim\, brighten\, dim again\, and so on…in less than a second! Other stars take years to vary their brightness—and not because the star is dying. These stars are called “variable stars.” Explore a different variable star each month with these full-dome shorts. Learn More!
