SUMMARY:Back to the Moon for Good
DESCRIPTION:Back to The Moon for Good begins with a tour through the history of lunar exploration\, tracing back to the 1960s and 1970s. We hear from some of the teams racing to land a robotic spacecraft on the moon and win the Google Lunar XPRIZE. The audience is taken on a successful launch\, landing and tour of the lunar surface. The show ends with an enticing visualization of a future settlement on the moon. The stunning visuals and compelling narrative of the show explain the importance of the Google Lunar XPRIZE in encouraging today’s space entrepreneurs and innovators to collaborate toward building a new space economy while inspiring the next generation to “shoot for the moon.” \n*Recommended for all audiences \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. SUMMARY:Starlight
DESCRIPTION:For thousands of years we have looked to the stars at night in wonder and awe. Their mysteries have inspired curiosity across all cultures and civilizations. Starlight is told through the eyes of Margaret\, as she steps back in time to relive childhood fears of the dark that awoke her curiosity about the night sky. \nStarlight features stunning visualizations that take audiences from Earth to the stars\, through nebulae and galaxies\, and on trips through the hearts of stars and supernova explosions. It also presents Christiaan Huygens’s first attempts to study starlight and introduces the concept of spectroscopy — all as part of Margaret’s personal story about exploring the sky. \nJoin Margaret as she takes you on an out-of-this-world journey to discover constellations and ancient cultures\, the birth and death of a star and the inner workings of our Sun. \n*Recommended for all audiences \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. It also explains how scientists use the colors of the aurora to understand the energy of the particles that create it. \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. SUMMARY:Lars\, the Little Polar Bear
DESCRIPTION:What happens when a frisky little polar bear named Lars ventures out on the first day of spring? He explores his Arctic home\, meets new friends\, and saves some endangered whales. Children will learn about how real polar bears live\, why they have small ears and tails\, what they eat\, and how the melting of Arctic sea ice is affecting their habitat. \nLars the Little Polar Bear is the beloved star of a children’s book “Little Polar Bear and the Whales” authored by Hans de Beer in 2008.  A short star talk section introduces the Arctic night sky\, the constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor\, as well as Polaris\, the North Star\, and the star patterns of the Big and Little Dipper. \nIt’s the perfect basis for a fulldome show to teach young children about nature\, climate change — and a little astronomy. \n*Recommended for School Audiences/Families. Begins with a 3:00 p.m. book reading in Room A201\, next to the Planetarium. \nSunday Story Time at 3:00 pm\, Planetarium Show 3:40 pm -4:10 pm \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. SUMMARY:"Facts + Figments" Modes of documentary and filmmaking exhibit Artist Reception
DESCRIPTION:It is commonly accepted in film school that one must choose between a narrative or documentary pursuit. Samuel Karow never understood this single-minded thinking. \nIn his formative years\, Sam converted the family barn into a haunted house that gained considerable popularity. His approach to creating the attraction was to honor the factual structure while embellishing it with figments of imagination. Straddling factual subject matter and fanciful invention carried over into Sam’s filmmaking. \nFor this installation\, Samuel expands on these concepts in collage form — including relics and mementos from past projects. “I enjoy making props\, costumes\, and set pieces for my films — another passion I picked up during the haunted barn days.” \nAbout the Artist: \nAfter receiving his BFA in film from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\, Samuel Karow is now a professional video artist based in Appleton\, Wisconsin. Specializing in documentaries\, he seeks to capture genuine moments of beauty\, intimacy\, and the human experience. Sam’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. His award-winning short film “3 Miles East” was included in the 64th Cannes Film Festival Court Métrage.
