SUMMARY:Poem in Your Pocket Day
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 18th by selecting a poem\, carrying it with you\, and sharing it with a friend\, family member\, colleague\, or stranger. \nThis year\, we’re thrilled to announce that we received a WiLS Ideas to Action grant to expand our Poem in Your Pocket Day programming beyond our walls to the Central Wisconsin region. \nJoin the UWSP Libraries and our community partners (list on right) for this celebration! Don’t have a poem? No problem! We’ve got you covered with poems available at our libraries and community partners (and digital poems on this guide). \nThis celebration of poetry is also a great way to explore our vast collections of poetry at the UWSP Libraries\, as well as any local or college/university library. \nPoem in Your Pocket Day is an official activity created by the American Academy of Poets for National Poetry Month. \nMake April 18th an extra special day for someone (and for you) by sharing a poem! It’s a great way to connect\, engage\, and inspire.

SUMMARY:Fragile Planet - Celebrating Earth Day/Week
DESCRIPTION:Fragile Planet gives audiences an astronaut’s view of Earth\, highlighting Earths unique regions. The journey then continues to the Moon\, Mars\, and beyond the Milky Way to search for habitats that might host extraterrestrial life. The show’s theme — that Earth is the only known haven for life\, and thus is important to protect — echoes the themes of biodiversity and sustainability. \nThe visual foundation of the show lies in scientific visualization. From the high-resolution satellite imagery of Earth\, the positions of galaxies more than 50 million light years distant\, the three-dimensional terrain of Valles Marineris on Mars to the locations of extrasolar planetary systems in interstellar space\, everything audiences will see in Fragile Planet has a basis in astronomers’ best understanding of the Universe. \nOur shows are open to the public in the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium. The planetarium is located on the second floor of the Science Building\, by the Foucault pendulum\, right above the east main entrance. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Direct access is obtained through the east entrance. \nPlanetarium programs for groups (schools\, scouts\, organizations\, etc.) can be arranged during our academic year.  Call 715-346-2120 or email physastr@uwsp.edu \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. Please visit this website for more details about parking options\, rules\, and regulations.

SUMMARY:Earth\, Moon & Sun
DESCRIPTION:This planetarium show explores the relationship between Earth\, Moon and Sun with the help of Coyote\, an amusing character adapted from Native American oral traditions. Coyote has many misconceptions about our home planet and its most familiar neighbors. His confusion about the universe makes viewers think about how Earth\, Moon and Sun work together as a system and learn to distinguish between myths and science. \nLearn the basics of fusion and solar energy and why the Sun rises and sets. Examine the Moon’s orbit\, craters\, phases\, and eclipses. You’ll even take a look at past and future space travel to our Moon … and beyond! \n\n\nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. SUMMARY:Imagine the Moon
DESCRIPTION:The Moon has been a source of wonder for all of human history. Each discovery has brought new opportunities to contemplate and imagine\, until\, driven by dreams\, we left Earth and went there in the amazing journeys that culminated in astronauts walking on the Moon. People have imagined the Moon as a glowing disk in the sky\, a destination in space\, and a world that shares its origin with the Earth. The power of human imagination continues to inspire our relationship with the Moon as our partner in space and companion in our sky. SUMMARY:Back to the Moon for Good
DESCRIPTION:Back to The Moon for Good begins with a tour through the history of lunar exploration\, tracing back to the 1960s and 1970s. We hear from some of the teams racing to land a robotic spacecraft on the moon and win the Google Lunar XPRIZE. The audience is taken on a successful launch\, landing and tour of the lunar surface. The show ends with an enticing visualization of a future settlement on the moon. The stunning visuals and compelling narrative of the show explain the importance of the Google Lunar XPRIZE in encouraging today’s space entrepreneurs and innovators to collaborate toward building a new space economy while inspiring the next generation to “shoot for the moon.” \n*Recommended for all audiences \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm.
