SUMMARY:Season of Light
DESCRIPTION:Season of Light is an elegant and sophisticated program about the coldest and darkest of seasons — a time which holds some of the warmest and brightest celebrations of the year. \nThis planetarium presentation traces the history and development of many of the world’s most endearing holiday customs\, all of which involve lighting up the winter season — from the burning Yule log\, sparkling Christmas tree lights and candles in windows\, to the lighting of luminarias in the American Southwest and the traditional ritual of the Hanukkah Menorah. \nAudiences learn a selection of Northern hemisphere winter constellations\, and find out why we even have seasons\, as we demonstrate the Sun’s path across the sky throughout the year\, and the Earth’s tilt and orbit around the Sun. \n*Recommended for all audiences \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. Please visit this website for more details about parking options\, rules\, and regulations. \nOur shows are open to the public in the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium. The planetarium is located on the second floor of the Science Building\, by the Foucault pendulum\, right above the east main entrance. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Direct access is obtained through the east entrance. \nPlanetarium programs for groups (schools\, scouts\, organizations\, etc.) can be arranged during our academic year.  Call 715-346-2120 or email physastr@uwsp.edu \n \n  \n \n  \nGET INVOLVED! \nThe Blocher Planetarium is a treasure of the Stevens Point community\, offering shows to students young and old alike. This space has inspired countless students to go onto careers in astronomy and sparked the imagination of young children on field trips as they ask questions about the universe and their place in it. Help “Rebuild the Wonder” and join this effort to keep future generations gazing up at the stars. Learn More! \n

SUMMARY:Messengers of Time and Space
DESCRIPTION:Messengers of Time and Space is a full-dome planetarium show from NSF NOIRLab designed to illuminate the imminent revolution in astronomy driven by time-domain and multi-messenger observations. This immersive experience invites audiences to explore the dynamic cosmos and witness the transformative impact of real-time data on our understanding of the Universe. \nThe planetarium show highlights how the International Gemini Observatory will work together with observatories that monitor the night sky for exciting astronomical events that change with time\, like Rubin Observatory. Sometimes\, light is not the only indicator of these short-term events. Audiences will learn how information can reach us through other messengers like cosmic rays\, elusive particles called neutrinos\, and even gravitational waves rippling through the Universe. Call 715-346-2120 or email physastr@uwsp.edu \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. Please visit this website for more details about parking options\, rules\, and regulations. \n \n \n  \nGET INVOLVED! Learn More!

Using innovative technologies to explore more of the lunar surface than ever before\, NASA uses what they learn on and around the Moon to take the next giant leap: sending the first astronauts to Mars. Join Kari Byron from Crash Test World and MythBusters as she launches on a journey beyond the Earth towards a sustainable future in space.
