DESCRIPTION:Shed light on the physics of black hole formation! \nLeading scientists in observational and theoretical studies of black holes and galaxies\, industrial experts in cutting-edge big technologies\, and professionals in science dissemination have been brought together to set up research projects which will combine the latest state-of-the-art observations\, numerical simulations and innovative analytic tools to compare theory with observation\, and shed light on the physics of black hole formation in the context of galaxy evolution. This planetarium show presents the environments of the black holes in an impressive and understandable way to the audience. \n*Recommended for all audiences \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. Bronze-leafed wash buckets to porcelain toilet paper rolls to Wisconsin landscape paintings. \nMichelle’s tableau of custodial implements memorializes janitorial labor. A concept that emerged from her artist-in-residency experience at Kohler Co. Michelle transforms these elements in silverleaf\, bronze\, and porcelain in celebration of their design and use. \nThe unexpected juxtaposition of Brad’s bucolic landscapes causes us to wonder about our own custodial practices and responsibilities in the world around us — and reflects the couple’s shared life as dedicated artists\, teachers\, and parents. \nGrabner’s interplay between material experimentation and conceptual rigor is contrasted with Killam’s enthusiasm for traditional genre painting and its histories. While their ongoing engagement with their daily environments may yield different approaches to artmaking\, art as a lived experience is something they both value. \nMichelle Grabner is a Guggenheim Fellow and Crown Family Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. DESCRIPTION:Young children will be introduced to the fascinating world of astronomy in a fun\, simple and very humorous way\, hand in hand with Plato\, a young mole. The animated characters and the attractive backdrops of this full dome entertainment show will keep audiences captivated. With Moles\, children will learn basic concepts about science while having a great time. \nThe story revolves around Plato\, who lives with his parents deep underground\, in a dark burrow full of mystery and surprises. He is a restless\, curious and thoughtful creature — fascinated by the light that penetrates the entrance to his home. Sometimes it is lit; sometimes it is dark. Why could that be? Plato desperately wants to see what is out there in the world above. One day he finally gets to see it all! Plato discovers day and night\, the Sun and Moon\, and the stars! \nOur shows are open to the public in the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium. The planetarium is located on the second floor of the Science Building\, by the Foucault pendulum\, right above the east main entrance. DESCRIPTION:Artist: Andy Gambrell | UWSP Assistant Professor of Painting & Drawing \nExhibition: November 12 – December 5\nArtist Reception: November 14 | 5:00-7:00PM | Gallery Talk @ 5:30 \nGallery Hours: Tue-Fri 12:00pm-6:00pm | Sat 10:00am-2:00pm \nFrom the wilderness of Arizona to the fields of Wisconsin\, this fascinating process of abstract painting results in a fresh\, beautiful celebration of the American landscape. \nGambrell’s painting practice was colored by formative years spent painting in Miami within a community of abstract painters that included late modern masters such as Jules Olitski and Darby Bannard. \nAndy’s contemporary work renews and extends American abstract painting through his use of an eye-tracking viewfinder he developed to create digital drawings of the path his eyes follow while taking in the Wisconsin landscape. \nGambrell studied art at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts\, Furman University (SC)\, the School of Visual Art (NY)\, and the University of Miami (FL).  He has taught art and design at UWSP (WI)\, Northern Arizona University (AZ)\, SCAD-Hong Kong (HK)\, Furman University (SC)\, SCAD-Atlanta (GA)\, Elizabeth City State University (NC)\, and the University of Miami (FL). \nGambrell’s art has been featured in over ninety exhibitions in the US and abroad.  His works have been presented in (or are in the permanent collections of): Clara Lovett Museum (AZ)\, Black Mountain College Museum + Art Center (NC)\, Lowe Art Museum (FL)\, Center for Visual Communication (FL)\, MOCA North Miami (FL)\, Greenville County Museum (SC)\, Los Angeles Center for Digital Art (CA)\, Dorsch Gallery (FL)\, Locust Projects (FL)\, Wynwood Project Space (FL)\, Art Center Lincoln Road (FL)\, Blue Spiral Gallery (NC)\, Soho House (HK)\, Red Chamber Gallery (HK)\, Gallery HZ (HK)\, Blue Lotus Gallery (HK)\, and many other venues.  The artist’s works are in private collections in the US\, Canada\, Colombia\, Switzerland\, Germany\, Hong Kong\, and New Zealand. \nMore Information:  AndyGambrell.com

SUMMARY:20 Artists to Watch Exhibit
