SUMMARY:Imagine the Moon
DESCRIPTION:The Moon has been a source of wonder for all of human history. Each discovery has brought new opportunities to contemplate and imagine\, until\, driven by dreams\, we left Earth and went there in the amazing journeys that culminated in astronauts walking on the Moon. People have imagined the Moon as a glowing disk in the sky\, a destination in space\, and a world that shares its origin with the Earth. The power of human imagination continues to inspire our relationship with the Moon as our partner in space and companion in our sky. \nOur shows are open to the public in the Allen F. Blocher Planetarium. The planetarium is located on the second floor of the Science Building\, by the Foucault pendulum\, right above the east main entrance. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Direct access is obtained through the east entrance. \nPlanetarium programs for groups (schools\, scouts\, organizations\, etc.) can be arranged during our academic year.  Call 715-346-2120 or email physastr@uwsp.edu \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. SUMMARY:Earth\, Moon & Sun
DESCRIPTION:This planetarium show explores the relationship between Earth\, Moon and Sun with the help of Coyote\, an amusing character adapted from Native American oral traditions. Coyote has many misconceptions about our home planet and its most familiar neighbors. His confusion about the universe makes viewers think about how Earth\, Moon and Sun work together as a system and learn to distinguish between myths and science. \nLearn the basics of fusion and solar energy and why the Sun rises and sets. Examine the Moon’s orbit\, craters\, phases\, and eclipses. You’ll even take a look at past and future space travel to our Moon … and beyond! \n\n\nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. SUMMARY:Fragile Planet - Celebrating Earth Day/Week
DESCRIPTION:Fragile Planet gives audiences an astronaut’s view of Earth\, highlighting Earths unique regions. The journey then continues to the Moon\, Mars\, and beyond the Milky Way to search for habitats that might host extraterrestrial life. The show’s theme — that Earth is the only known haven for life\, and thus is important to protect — echoes the themes of biodiversity and sustainability. \nThe visual foundation of the show lies in scientific visualization. From the high-resolution satellite imagery of Earth\, the positions of galaxies more than 50 million light years distant\, the three-dimensional terrain of Valles Marineris on Mars to the locations of extrasolar planetary systems in interstellar space\, everything audiences will see in Fragile Planet has a basis in astronomers’ best understanding of the Universe. SUMMARY:Travelling with Light
DESCRIPTION:Through the conversation between a child and his mother\, planetarium show “Travelling with Light” tackles the importance of light in all areas of our lives. This 2020 film presents different scenarios that reveal the complexity of light and its direct influence on our planet. The Sun is the closest star to Earth and generates the energy that provides the light and heat necessary for life. The study of the Sun’s light and that of other stars and galaxies enables the development of several models that explain the origin\, structure and evolution of the universe. \nNevertheless\, the Sun is not the only source of natural light. Fire has accompanied the Earth since its inception and has played a very important role in the evolution of the human being\, so much so that its discovery by primitive societies changed their way of life. Even artificial light and its applications in medicine or communication reveal the relationship between humanity\, life and light. \n*Recommended for all audiences \nAdmission\nThere is no charge for our public programs\, although donations of $1-$2 per attendee will be greatly appreciated to allow us to continue these public programs for our community. \nParking\nParking is free on campus for our guests only on Saturdays and Sundays. From Monday-Friday\, the UWSP parking lots are enforced 2 am – 7 pm. SUMMARY:The Sun - Our Living Star
DESCRIPTION:The Sun has shone on our world for four and a half billion years. The light that warms our skin today has been felt by every person who has ever lived. \nIt is our nearest star and our planet’s powerhouse\, the source of the energy that drives our winds\, our weather and all life. The passage of the Sun’s fiery disc across the sky — day by day\, month by month — was the only way to keep track of time for countless past civilizations. \nDon’t be fooled by the terminology; although it is a typical dwarf star\, the Sun consumes 600 million tons of hydrogen each second and is 500 times as massive as all the planets combined. \nDiscover the secrets of our star in this planetarium show and experience never-before-seen images of the Sun’s violent surface in immersive fulldome format. \n  \nThe Allen F. Blocher Planetarium is located in the Science Building\, 2001 Fourth Avenue\, on the UW-Stevens Point campus. The planetarium consists of a 7.3m diameter dome that houses a DIGISTAR LITE projector (installed in 2020).

SUMMARY:Phantom of the Universe- The Search for Dark Matter
DESCRIPTION:Phantom of the Universe showcases an exciting exploration of dark matter\, from the Big Bang to its anticipated discovery at the Large Hadron Collider. \nThe show reveals the first hints of its existence through the eyes of Fritz Zwicky\, the scientist who coined the term “dark matter.” It describes the astral choreography witnessed by Vera Rubin in the Andromeda galaxy and then plummets deep underground to see the most sensitive dark matter detector on Earth\, housed in a former gold mine. \nFrom there\, it journeys across space and time to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN\, speeding alongside particles before they collide in visually stunning explosions of light and sound\, while learning how scientists around the world are collaborating to track down the constituents of dark matter.
