What is Organizational Leadership?

Organizational leadership is a twofold management style that combines what is best for the individual and what is best for the group as a whole by providing inspiration, objectives, and operational oversight to an organization. It is also an attitude and a work ethic that empowers an individual in any role to lead from the top, middle, or bottom of an organization.

Where is the demand for Organizational Leaders? 

Jobs for this degree can be found in a variety of settings and roles, and the skills students learn transfer to all organizations and businesses whether private, public or nonprofit. 

What is the difference between Leaders and Managers?

Leaders inspire people to understand and believe in their vision for an organization through trust, integrity, motivation and inspiration.  Managers handle more of the administrative tasks to ensure the day-to-day duties get accomplished by the staff they supervise.

Is the B.A.S. program right for me?

The B.A.S. degree will enhance your chances for advancement within your profession by giving you the training and experience to help you develop into a leader in your field. The course and curriculum is designed to give you the skills and knowledge employers look for in leaders when hiring for their organization. You will develop proficiency in interpersonal and written communication, critical and creative thinking, diversity and global awareness and technology - skills immediately transferrable to your corporation. 

Is an accelerated class for me?

Accelerated classes are not for everyone. An accelerated class takes the same content from a traditional class and condenses it into a shorter time frame. Students study the same principles as a regular class but in greater detail and at a faster pace. Students in accelerated classes need to:

  • be self-motivated
  • have good time management skills
  • possess good study skills

How many credits can I transfer into the Applied Studies program? 

UW-Stevens Point will accept a maximum of 72 credits from two year colleges in which a D or higher was earned. Courses must be similar in nature, level and content to course work in our undergraduate curriculum. The academic department will determine which credits apply to the B.A.S. major. 

Do I need an AA or AS degree to be accepted into this program?

Yes. The Bachelor of Applied Studies is designed for those who have completed an Associate Degree from a technical college.

How many credits do I need to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Studies?

A minimum of 120 credits is required for a bachelor's degree. The B.A.S. in Organizational Leadership consists of 12 credits in Effective Communication for Leaders, 9 credits in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication, 9 credits in Leading Diverse Populations, 12 credits in Additional Skills for Leadership and between 3-15 credits in Electives.

How can I find out about the General Education requirements at UW-Stevens Point? 

To find out more about the General Education requirements, visit the Student Academic Advising Center's webpage and select Academic Information, Degree Information. To meet the residency requirements, you must earn a minimum of 30 credits to graduate from UW-Stevens Point.

Are students in the program eligible for financial aid?

Yes. Students must be enrolled at least half-time to received financial aid. For the academic year, 12-18 credits is full-time; 9-11 credits is 3/4 time; and 6-8 credits is half-time enrollment. During the summer semester, 6+ credits is full-time; 5 credits 3/4 time; and 3 credits half time. Winterim is not considered a term. However, if you are enrolled for the academic year or during spring semester, there may be additional aid to cover the cost.

Financial aid is normally offered on full-time enrollment. If less then full-time, an aid adjustment will be made and a reduction in aid eligibility will occur for any term in which you are enrolled for that year. There are some types of financial aid that are credit sensitive that may be reduced or cancelled. For more information, contact the Financial Aid Office.

I probably don't qualify for financial aid. Should I apply anyway?

Yes, many families mistakenly think that they don’t qualify for aid so they don’t apply. There are sources of non-need based aid, but receipt of these types of aid also requires a financial aid application. Some sources of non-need based aid include the Unsubsidized Direct Loan and the parent PLUS loan. For more information, contact the Financial Aid Office

Can I get financial aid for summer school?

Yes. The summer term leads our academic year; therefore, you just need to apply for the FAFSA after January 1st to be awarded for the summer. Once you are registered at least half-time, your financial aid award will automatically include the summer or you will receive a revised award email shortly after you have registered.
