New First-Year Student Scholarship List

In addition to the scholarships listed below, departmental scholarships may be available. Students are encouraged to contact the department of their intended major to explore scholarship possibilities in their area of study.

  • Some awards may change reflecting current trends in interest rates.
  • The scholarship process is competitive. Meeting minimum criteria alone does not guarantee receipt of an award. Scholarship recipients typically meet and exceed minimum criteria for eligibility.

Priority consideration is given to admitted students who submit the scholarship application form by November 15.

  • Must be a first-year, first-generation student
  • Scholarship may be renewed for a second year if student maintains good academic standing (at least 12 cr/semester, continuous enrollment, 2.0 cumulative GPA)
Leroy "Larry" Bishop Memorial Scholarship​
  • Top 1/3 of high school class
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Evidence of student activity involvement
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities
  • Potentially renewable if 3.0 GPA is maintained
David A. Brandt Memorial Scholarship​
  • Antigo High School graduate
  • Must demonstrate potential for success in college based on high school class rank, GPA, ACT
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities

  • Potentially renewable for eight (8) consecutive semesters if 3.0 GPA is maintained (verified at end of fall semester and again at end of spring semester)
Chancellor's Choice Scholarship
  • Top 10% of high school class
  • GPA higher than 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • ACT higher than 25

Delta Dental Scholarship
  • Major in Business Management, Accounting, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Health Care Informatics, Data Analytics, and technical biomedical writing. Can be another major not listed but preference to above majors.
Karen Engelhard Alumni Scholarship
  • Major in education
  • Wisconsin resident
  • Potentially renewable if 3.0 GPA is maintained and recipient is accepted into the School of Education (SOE) when eligible
  • Continued eligibility is monitored by the SOE
Marion Brazeau Fey Scholarship
  • Displays ability to succeed
  • Involvement in community and high school service activities

  • Top 5% of high school class
  • Displays leadership qualities
  • Must be from former U.S. Representative Melvin R. Laird's congressional district (7th), if no candidate available, can select from other home county within Wisconsin
  • Potentially renewable for a 2nd year if 3.0 GPA is maintained verified at end of fall semester and again at end of spring term
  • Community/university leadership/involvement
  • Need letter confirming leadership activities by April of 1st year
  • Full time student (12 or more credits per semester)

Neale Alumni Honors Freshman Scholarship
  • Top 10% of high school class
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)

  • Rigor of high school courses taken

  • Special skills and/or contributions they could bring to UWSP
  • Potentially eligible to apply for Robert & Ventura Neale Continuing Scholarship in sophomore year

  • Incoming first-year UWSP student from SPASH
  • Based on financial need
  • Must enroll full time and maintain 2.5 GPA
Peterson Family Communication Scholarship
  • First-year student, Communication Major
  • Preference given to first-generation college student
Ruth O. Petersen Scholarship
  • Top 20% high school class
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
  • ACT of 25 or higher
Poulter-Knipp Freshman Scholarship
  • Preference given to Princeton High School graduate
  • High school graduate from Green Lake County, Wisconsin
  • High school graduate from Wisconsin counties of Marquette, Waushara, Adams if no qualified recipient from Green Lake
  • GPA of 2.75 or higher
Jaclyn Przybylski Scholarship
  • Awarded by Admissions Office
Scott Schultz Memorial Scholarship
  • Top 20% of high school class
  • Demonstrated community and high school involvement and leadership
  • If renewable, must maintain at least 3.0 GPA
Kathrin M. "Kitty" Saunders Sebold Scholarship
  • Preference given to graduate of Wisconsin Rapids Assumption High School or Medford High School (1 from each school)
  • Academic merit and leadership ability (preference to valedictorian)
  • Active participation in school activities
  • Student must consent to press release about them
  • Financial need NOT considered
  • If no qualified applicant, no award to be made
Sentry Academic Leadership Scholarship
  • Top 1/3 of high school class OR GPA of 3.00 or higher
  • Involved in extra-curricular and community activities
  • Potentially renewable if 3.25 GPA is maintained
Sentry Employee Dependent Scholarship
  • Separate application obtained by employee from Sentry Insurance
  • Student must be dependent of Sentry Insurance employee 
  • Top 50% of high school class or Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or ACT of at least 23
  • Involvement and leadership in high school and community acts
  • For renewability, must maintain 3.0 cumulative GPA and full-time enrollment (except for final semester)
Sentry Insurance Student Leadership Scholarship
  • Top 15% of high school class
  • Involvement in extracurricular and community activities displaying leadership potential
  • Student must be pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Economics, Computer Information Systems, Accounting, Actuarial Math, or Web & Digital Media Development
  • Potentially renewable if 3.25 GPA is maintained and candidate remains in prescribed major

  • High academic achievement, leadership, and service potential
  • Potentially renewable if full-time status (minimum of 12 credits per semester) and 3.3 GPA is maintained
