The ultimate goal of assessment is to ensure the continuous improvement of student learning by refining&nbsp;the courses, programs, and policies that make&nbsp;student&nbsp;learning&nbsp;possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The review and evaluation of student learning in&nbsp;academic programs of study is the responsibility of the Assessment Subcommittee, which resides under the Common Council&#8217;s Academic Affairs Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/handbook.uwsp.edu\/chapters\/chapter-7\/assessment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The reporting procedure for program assessment has been revised.<\/a>&nbsp;Rather than a five-year reporting cycle harmonized with each department&#8217;s 10-year review cycle, we are switching to annual reporting of individual learning outcomes for each program. The goal will be to assess and report all learning outcomes within a five-year cycle. Consequently, programs with more than five program learning outcomes may need to report on multiple learning outcomes in a given year to meet that goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As explained in the Handbook, each annual report will have the following components:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Program Learning Outcomes<\/strong>: Verify&nbsp;all the listed&nbsp;program learning outcomes and select the&nbsp;focal program learning outcome to be assessed.\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Current&nbsp;Curriculum Map<\/strong>: Include the program curriculum map depicting the ways in which courses, activities and requirements support all program learning outcomes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Summary of Previous Results<\/strong>: If the focal learning outcome has been assessed previously, provide a brief (&lt;250 words) abstract of those results.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Brief Description of Departmental Improvements and Changes as related to Assessment<\/strong>: If the focal learning outcome has been assessed previously, describe specific changes that have been made (to curriculum, assessment methods, etc.), based on that previous assessment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Assessment Strategies\/Measures\/Techniques\/Methods<\/strong>: Include brief descriptions of assessment methods used in the program to assess student learning. Examples of assessment methods include exams, portfolios, pre- and post-\u00ad tests, direct observation of performance, surveys (current students, alumni, employers), focus groups, and national exams.\u200b Also,&nbsp;specify the target percentage that represents the programmatic benchmark for the focal PLO\u2014that is,&nbsp;the percentage of students expected to meet or exceed expectations for this outcome.\u200b<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Assessment Results\/Findings\/Interpretation<\/strong>: Describe specifically what the assessment results reveal about student learning in the context of the stated focal program learning outcome.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Implications<\/strong>: Describe how results will be used by the department to enhance student learning, including changes to the curriculum, assessment techniques, and\/or learning outcomes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dissemination of Findings<\/strong>: Describe how the findings of the departmental assessment work will be disseminated, to whom, and for what purpose.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Five-Year Assessment Plan<\/strong>:&nbsp;An updated&nbsp;plan that describes when each PLO will be assessed and reported within the five-year cycle.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2025-2026 Annual Reports&#8217; Submission:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwsp-accordion blockspacetop blockspacebottom\"><div class=\"accordion\" id=\"\"><div class=\"panelcontainer nofirst\">\n<details class=\"wp-block-create-block-uwsp-accordion-section\"><summary class=\"accordion-heading\">2025-2026 Annual Reports&#8217; Submission<\/summary><div class=\"accordion-content\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">According to the&nbsp;<em>University&nbsp;Handbook<\/em>, annual program assessment&nbsp;reports are due the first&nbsp;Friday&nbsp;in February, i.e.,&nbsp;02\/06\/2026.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We are using&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/teams.microsoft.com\/l\/entity\/6cfbdc8e-cc1e-4b21-829e-d7e446f87c56\/_djb2_msteams_prefix_753918573?context=%7B%22channelId%22%3A%2219%3Afcbf8fd586bf49dea3b0c7a089c040f5%40thread.skype%22%7D&amp;tenantId=209c4bad-df14-4172-87df-060f84f01a11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Program Assessment Microsoft Teams<\/a>&nbsp;site for the submissions of the annual program assessment reports for undergraduate&nbsp;and graduate&nbsp;progra\u200b\u200bms (The latest version is 1.3.3).
