UWSP students learn ethnobotany on Belizean adventure

Nine students, two chaperones and 10 days in the field were the recipe for the winter break trip a group of Pointers hold dear in their memory.

Professor Virginia Freire, who teaches biology at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, organized a 10-day trip to Belize during the students’ Christmas break to teach them about ethnobotany and let them immerse themselves in a new culture.

“That’s a great lesson for life,” Freire said.
