The return of warmer weather means more animals will soon be out and about.

On a particular stretch of Highway 66 near Stevens Point, that means turtles will attempt to cross the busy road to try and lay their eggs. It’s causing problems for both turtles and motorists alike.

University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Biology Instructor Nancy Shefferly said turtles crossing the road are not only risking their own lives, but the lives of motorists.

"Turtles on the road are a danger to everybody. People slow down, people stop, help the turtles across. Or they hit the turtles which can send small turtles flying and making them into projectiles."
