Eight state legislators now have a better understanding of some of the innovative programs going on at University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.

The lawmakers meet at the science building Friday to learn about a new data analytics program with members at Sentry Insurance and the university. They also had a chance to look at research done by current students. Something Senator Jerry Petrowski said is important for the state as a whole.

"I think it's important, especially for legislators from around the state to see what's going on in central Wisconsin here like with the paper industry, with aquaculture. All of those things are really, i think, important for our future,” explained Sen. Petrowski.

Karyn Biasca is the paper science and chemical engineering chair. She said have the legislators stop by is a good way for them to understand how funding is being used.
