Sexual assault survivor: new law could convince more victims to come forward

A bill presented by Attorney General Bill Schimel and Rep. Joan Ballweg would provide citation immunity to victims for underage drinking, who many have been under the influence at the time of the assault.

 

"If i didn't report i don't think i'd be where I am right now," she recalls.When you meet Katie Menard, she tells you she's a survivor, not a victim.

 

Katie agreed to share her story with NewsChannel 7. It's been a year since she was sexually assaulted and now she's the executive director of PAVE, a student organization at UW-Stevens Point that aims to shatter the silence surrounding sexual violence.
