Student Government leaders at UW-Stevens Point are working to get out the vote to approve a tuition increase that could make it easier to get classes on campus.

The program is called differential tuition, and would raise student tuition over the top of assigned UW-System levels by $200 dollars per semester. That would mean an extra $3 million for the campus. UW-Stevens Point chancellor Bernie Patterson says they're keeping the scope of the extra tuition narrow in order to ensure it's going where it's needed. "It's focused only at bottleneck courses and advising, in other words, what we can do to help students graduate in a more timely fashion." Patterson says the campus could hire 25 more teachers and staff with that funding. UWSP is one of three campuses in the UW-System that currently does not have the differential tuition program, and Patterson says it's something they've been working to implement over the last 5 years.
