The first of a series of forums on political topics takes place Tuesday night in Stevens Point as part of the campus’s Civil Discourse Initiative.
The initiative is an effort to get people on opposite sides of controversial topics to treat each other with respect.
“Much of what we observe in Madison and Washington can in fact be not very civil,” says Chris Cirmo, the UW-Stevens Point dean of the College of Letters and Science. “These cable news networks are set up not to have a conversation, but to address their specific portion of the audience.”
