It’s one of a kind: A map meant to preserve the Menominee Indian Tribe’s history.

After 30 years of passion and dedication researching his tribal heritage, Mike Hoffman has something to show for all his hard work.

“It’s a gift to the Menominee people so our children, our people, will know where we came from,” said Hoffman of the map. “What we call different places, and their stories and legends that go with these places.”

The map, created in partnership with UW-Stevens Point, documents historical territory and place names dating back to the tribe’s beginnings more than 10 thousand years ago.
