Treehaven bears become part of University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point study

Kevin Burns, the forest ecologist at Treehaven, gets credit for first discovering the bear den last fall.

Burns was out with students on a field exercise and the group found it about ¾ of a mile from Treehaven’s main center. Treehaven is the 1,400-acre natural resources education, conference and research center east of Tomahawk in northern Lincoln County. Burns and other educators at Treehaven promptly informed Tim Ginnett, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point professor of wildlife ecology, about the bear and the den.
