Jason D'Acchioli says he was immediately drawn to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point when he was looking for a job seven years ago.

D'Acchioli had completed his postdoctoral research at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and had applied to six or seven schools. He had some connection to the state, with extended family in the Madison area, but said he also received a strong endorsement from his wife, Carolyn, one of 10 children in her family who attended college within the UW System.

"It was kind of a no-brainer for me," D'Acchioli, 34, now an associate professor of chemistry at UWSP. "I liked the location and the area, and the atmosphere with the faculty was very collegial. It all felt very welcoming, and a big thing for me in looking for a job was to go where you feel comfortable."
