The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is one of a handful of campuses across the United States to launch a new smartphone application through USA TODAY designed to get relevant news to students.

The Buzz is the mobile extension of USA TODAY’s Collegiate Readership Program, which started in 1997 and is now present at more than 350 college campuses, including UWSP. The program lets students read newspapers on campus for free. At UWSP, the program provides copies of the Stevens Point Journal, USA TODAY and The New York Times at all residence halls and seven buildings across campus.

The new mobile app, now available for free on iOS and Android platforms, will provide students access to a news feed on their phones that will be customized to the area where they live and offer topics including news, sports, technology and opinion.
