As she worked between rows of plants in a quiet greenhouse, Noela Martell paused for a moment and listened.
She heard the trickle of water and nothing else.
"All I need in here are some birds and I'd be happy," Martell said.
Martell is a senior biology major at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and one of only a small number of students who remain on the campus during winter break, which, for most, began last week and ends Jan. 20. Martell, of Amherst Junction, spent time cleaning and watering plants Monday in a greenhouse on the fourth floor of the Science Building.
It's a job Martell said she enjoys, even when most of her classmates are home for the holidays.
