...Career specialists at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point continue to preach flexibility and preparation to students. While employers look at skills tied directly to a specific job or career, they’re also looking for “soft skills,” like leadership and communication.
Sue Kissinger , interim director of Academic and Career Advising, said students should keep an open mind about the businesses and industry they choose. Just because someone has a degree in history doesn’t mean they can’t work in insurance.
“These companies are really looking for a broad base of majors,” she said. “They’re looking at the liberal arts majors because of their critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills and initiative.”
