University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point students may be asked to provide an additional $3 million in funding so the campus can hire about 25 more teachers and advisers.

The university hopes to raise those additional funds by charging all full-time undergraduate students differential tuition, which UWSP would add on top of tuition set by the Board of Regents. The 2015-17 state budget allows UWSP to add $200 per student per semester on top of the existing tuition and fees if approved by the Board of Regents.

With a student population of about 9,500 — 2,586 of them from Portage, Marathon, Wood and Waupaca counties — the campus would have more than $3 million extra to spend on students' education.
