Stevens Point artist and naturalist Virgil Beck has done it again.

His illustration was selected last week by the Department of Natural Resources for use as the background on a hunting stamp, the eighth time a piece of Beck’s art has been chosen for such an honor...

...Beck began drawing at age 4 and painting at 8, and he won his first statewide art contest at 17. He earned a degree in fine art from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a natural resources-related degree from UW-Stevens Point.

“That second degree helped me better understand the anatomy of animals and plant structures. I also continued to get a lot of advice on my paintings from George Becker and other (UWSP) teachers,” he said.
