The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Big Dawgs Fishing Club has grown so successful since its founding in 2007 that it now is luring other anglers to central Wisconsin.

It's most recent catch: The Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship, which will be held July 9-11 at Lake DuBay on the Wisconsin River. It's the first time the national championships have been held in Wisconsin, and as many as 90 teams from across the country are expected to participate. They will bring with them around 10,000 spectators, followers and team members, and the whole thing will be aired on the ESPNU network.

Club member Cody Hahner of Wausau said he and his teammates were approached by Hank Weldon, College Series tournament manager, following the Midwestern Regional Championship on Lake of the Ozarks in March 2014. Weldon said he was interested in bringing the championships to central Wisconsin, but he needed help.
