The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County received a $1,500 Green Gift from Cellcom on Oct. 30 at a presentation at their facility.

The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County is to inspire and enable all youth to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring community members. The Green Gift will be used to implement a Make Your Own Energy Program for the members.

“The Club will partner with the K-12 Energy Education Program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to adapt energy education curriculum to our after-school program format and create an education trunk filled with renewable energy demonstration kits, energy conservation activities, energy measurement techniques, and other hands-on, minds-on projects,” said Jeremy Higgins, grant writer at the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County. “Participants will hopefully gain a deeper understanding of how their personal decisions translate into the amount of energy used and how much that might cost over time.”
