Pierre Beauchamp always has enjoyed building things from start to finish, especially if those things benefit something when they’re done.

Since the 18-year-old from Auburn, Calif., was very young, he has enjoyed growing food and started building different gardening systems that could grow fresh produce in a very different way — using aquaponics.

Beauchamp spoke Thursday during the International Aquaponics Conference at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The conference, which ends today, provides information for growers, educators, agriculture and government representatives interested in sustainable food production, specifically through an aquaponics system.
