There is no certification, but an internship is as important to a collegiate theater major as it is to an education major or a medical student. It opens the door to a future job or advanced degree.

“Having an internship allows me to practice and refine my skills in a professional setting,” said Simone Tegge, one of four University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point bachelor of fine arts candidates in theatre design and technology working with Attic Theatre this summer...

Scott Wirtz-Olsen, theater professor at UW-Stevens Point and scenic designer for Attic Theatre, recruited his students to apply for the internships with the promise of teaching them how to take a scene design and build it into a set that will serve as a backdrop or framework for the actors. It defines the space in which the play takes place and creates an atmosphere for the actors.
