A Marshfield icon who has had an unmeasurable impact on numerous communities in central Wisconsin was inducted into the Wisconsin Forestry Hall of Fame on Friday.

W.D. Connor Sr. was recognized for his invaluable contributions to sustainable Wisconsin forestry during a ceremony Friday afternoon in Laona, a northeastern Wisconsin town he founded to support his logging company in 1896.

“This is one of the highest honors a Wisconsin forester can receive,” said Paul Doruska, the associate dean of the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
