Preseason rankings for college football are starting to emerge while last year’s basketball season is fading into memory, but for a few collegiate sportsmen, their season is just at its peak.

Bass fishing teams from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point are in Young Harris, Ga., to compete for the national title in bass fishing. Nick Carter (College of Professional Studies), Leo Dedering (College of Natural Resources), Cody Hahner (College of Professional Studies) and Stephen Maliborski (College of Natural Resources) make up two, two-man fishing teams that will be competing at the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship this Thursday through Saturday. For all four, it will be their first time competing at the national level.

“We’re fishing against the best college anglers in the country, so it’s pretty exciting,” Dedering said in a phone interview Monday.

Leo Dedering and Stephen Maliborski are CNR students and Nick Carter and Cody Hahner are in CPS.
