4/26/2016

From muskrats to crayfish, learn more about the residents of Lake Joanis and Moses Creek at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Schmeeckle Reserve during the annual Spring Candlelight Hike Festival.

Held from 7-9:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, the free, public event offers a walk on torch-lit trails around the reserve as well as activities for all ages, crafts, snacks, programs and door prizes. The reserve’s Browse Shop will also be open. A donation of $2 per person or $5 per family is suggested.

At 7:30 and 8:30 p.m., gather at the campfire for the program “Underwater Schmeeckle” and hear from some of the animals that make the reserve’s waterways their home.
Visitors should meet at the Schmeeckle Reserve Visitors Center, located at 2419 North Point Drive, with parking available along North Point Drive. For more information, call 715-346-4992 or visit www.uwsp.edu/cnr-ap/schmeeckle/Pages/programs/candlelight.aspx.
