UW-Stevens Point theatre and dance season announced

A multiple Tony Award-winning musical and a well-known, inspiring drama production are among theatrical experiences offered at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point during the 2016-17 Department of Theatre and Dance season.

Tickets are on sale for evening and matinee performances throughout the coming academic year. Prices are $22 for adults, $21 for seniors, $17 for youth and $4.50 for students with UW-Stevens Point ID. Season ticket packages are also available for all seven shows, the four in the Jenkins Theatre or the three in the Studio Theatre. Tickets are available at the UW-Stevens Point Information and Tickets Office, located in the Dreyfus University Center concourse, by calling 715-346-4100 or at http://tickets.uwsp.edu/index.php.

In addition, the First Nighters program offers theatergoers dinner and a show on the premiere Friday evenings of six productions (Afterimages 2016 is not included). Meals are provided in the Noel Fine Arts Center courtyard by university dining. Tickets are $170 per person for either the Studio Theatre package or Jenkins Theatre package or $320 for all six. The 2016-17 performances include:

  • "Unnecessary Farce" - Oct. 14-16 and 19-22, Studio Theatre
    Watch what develops when an embezzling mayor meets with his accountant while two undercover police officers wait next door.
  • "La Cage Aux Folles" - Nov. 4-6 and 9-12, Jenkins Theatre
    The Tony Award-winning musical tells the story of a nightclub owner and his partner who moonlights as a drag queen as they meet their son's fiancée and her conservative parents.
  • "Afterimages 2016" - Dec. 9-11, Jenkins Theatre
    This student-directed dance show highlights the talents of student choreographers, performers, lighting and costume designers and gives students the full experience of creating their own work.
  • "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris" – Feb. 10-12 and 15-18, 2017, Studio Theatre
    The show brings to life the passionate and profound songs of Belgian songwriter Jacques Brel.
  • "The Miracle Worker" – March 3-5 and 9-11, 2017, Jenkins Theatre
    Young Annie Sullivan comes to the Keller home to teach their blind and deaf daughter, Helen, in an inspiring story that is suitable for the whole family.
  • "Danstage 2017" - April 7-9 and 13-15, 2017, Jenkins Theatre
    The annual dance concert features new works by faculty members and a guest choreographer.
  • "Blood Wedding" – May 5-7 and 10-12, 2017, Studio Theatre
    A rural Spanish village plagued by rivalry and vendettas is shaken to the core by the events of a wedding day.
