An event that celebrates and supports student musicians will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Friday, April 29.

The 18th annual Soiree Musicale, with the theme “Masquerade: Lose yourself in the music,” begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Noel Fine Arts Center. A fundraiser for the Music Department, the event includes a reception with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, followed by a concert in Michelsen Hall at 7:30 p.m. and an afterglow party featuring a jazz combo, desserts and a cash bar.

Pre-concert entertainment will feature faculty members David Hastings on saxophone and Brent Turney on trumpet. The main program will include student and faculty soloists and musicians, with pieces from “The Magic Flute” and “Band of Brothers” as well as selections by Giovanni Bottesini, Clara Schumann, Johann Strauss and faculty member Stacey Berk.

Admission is $65 per person and includes the concert, pre- and post-performance receptions and a dance party. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.uwsp.edu/music/Pages/soiree.aspx or call 715-346-3841.

All proceeds fund scholarships, primarily for incoming first-year students, which enable UW-Stevens Point to recruit and retain some of the region’s most promising musicians. Soirée Musicale has raised more than $275,000 for music scholarships since its inception.
