Opera singer to perform in Stevens Point

Known as "The People's Diva," opera singer and multiple Grammy Award winner Renée Fleming will come to Stevens Point next month through the Sentry Insurance Invitation to the Arts. 

Fleming will give a public performance at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Sentry Theater. Tickets are $20 each and are on sale now through the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point University Information and Tickets, http://tickets.uwsp.edu or 715-346-4100. All proceeds will be donated to local arts programming. 

On Wednesday, Oct. 12, Fleming will hold master classes at UW-Stevens Point with four voice students and another with four Aber Suzuki Center voice students. 

Fleming is a four-time Grammy Award winning soprano who has performed in opera halls across the nation and the world as well as at the 2008 Olympic games. Winner of the National Medal of the Arts, America's highest honor for an individual artist, she has been featured in numerous television and radio broadcasts. Fleming was the first classical artist to sing the National Anthem at a Super Bowl in 2014. 

She has also released numerous albums of her work, from opera classics to indie-rock and pop cover songs. She is featured on the soundtracks for "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" and "Rise of the Guardians." She has also authored "The Inner Voice," a book about her career and creative process. 

The Sentry Insurance Invitation to the Arts is sponsored by Sentry Insurance Foundation in conjunction with the College of Fine Arts & Communication at UW-Stevens Point. The program provides local students, from grade school to college, opportunities to interact with outstanding professionals in the fine arts including Yo Yo Ma, Mandy Patinkin, Patti LuPone and Audra McDonald.
