A singer/songwriter known for blending jazz, hip-hop, rhythm and blues and electronica will perform as part of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Performing Arts Series.

José James will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, at Sentry Insurance’s Theatre @1800, 1800 Northpoint Drive, Stevens Point. The series is presented in part by Country Inn and Suites of Stevens Point and Sentry Insurance.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and $6 for youth. UW-Stevens Point students with ID may buy tickets in advance for $4.50 or be admitted free the day of the show if seats remain. Tickets may be purchased through the University Information and Tickets Office in the Dreyfus University Center concourse, 715-346-4100 or 800-838-3378, or at http://tickets.uwsp.edu.

James has been called a trailblazer and musical omnivore for following his own musical path. His songs have been compared to those by funk and rhythm and blues artists of the 70s as well as rap artists of the 90s.

His most recent recording, “No Beginning No End” from Blue Note Records, sums up how he feels about music. “I don’t want to be confined to any particular style,” he said. “I just write without any boundaries.”
